Dialysis Nurse - Spectrum Dialysis

Qualifications:
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in hemodialysis required.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) License — Required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association — Required.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and exhibit leadership potential.
- Must be able to complete training and demonstrate competencies in:
- Machine setup
- Initiation and termination of dialysis treatments
- Patient monitoring
- All other functions necessary to complete a dialysis procedure

Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Treatment Activities:
- Effectively manage and direct care involving fistulas, shunts, grafts, and dialysis catheters. Possess a thorough understanding of vascular access care and appropriate interventions during access complications.
- Perform venipunctures, shunt care, and dressing changes with proficiency.
- Oversee and manage dialysis treatments for all patients under your care.
- Administer medications as ordered and document all administration accurately.
- Assess patient needs for PRN (as-needed) medications and respond appropriately.
- Document assessments and promptly respond to any adverse reactions.
- Obtain and accurately implement physician orders.
- Perform required laboratory procedures including specimen collection, centrifugation, and requisitioning.
- Practice universal precautions when handling blood specimens and working with patients with bloodborne pathogens, including hepatitis.
- Implement individualized care plans as prescribed by physicians; evaluate and adjust plans as needed.
- Interpret laboratory values and communicate findings to patients and staff as appropriate.
- Observe and assess patients' responses to dialysis therapy and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Provide patient and family education regarding home care and follow physician instructions.
- Maintain and update medication logs accurately.
- Supervise dialysis technicians and ensure timely completion of their duties.
- Perform frequent patient rounds to ensure safety and well-being.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure all dialysis equipment is tested and safe prior to treatment initiation.
- Conduct spot checks on dialysis machines and patients during treatments to maintain quality care.
- Inspect the crash cart daily according to policy.
- Assist in maintaining appropriate inventory levels of stock medications.
- Complete initial nursing assessments on newly admitted patients during assigned shift.
- Provide education and demonstrate competency in treatment procedures to staff and patients.
- Understand, initiate, and direct emergency procedures as needed.
- Participate in training and evaluation of new employees.
- Maintain an empathetic and supportive attitude toward patients; provide counseling and encourage treatment compliance.
- Uphold and model professional behavior at all times; promote and support the policies of the dialysis center.
- Report malfunctioning or defective equipment promptly to maintain a safe environment.
- Report inappropriate behavior or conduct by staff or patients and take immediate corrective action if necessary.
- Follow all safety protocols and infection control procedures, including universal precautions.
- Assist administration in enforcing rules and regulations for staff, patients, and visitors.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient medical records and health information.
Compensation: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
